The centenary anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War has initiated a wave of commemorative activities which impact on how the conflict is understood and remembered. This conference will explore the pasts of communities living near or along adjacent coastlines: firths, sea lochs, fjords, estuaries, inlets, sounds, narrow gulfs and bays could all be discussed.
